The Arrival

According to the Elves, the year was 1880, an ominous time according to their auguries. Both the priests of the Visaya and shamans of the Nadir foretold of a great shift in the order of the world. Some claimed the portents to be joyous, promising a new era of prosperity for all the races of Abeir; others predicted naught but doom. None could truly anticipate what was to come.
On the last day of the year, as the Great Light fell below the horizon and the celebrations of a new year were about to commence, the Crystal Orrery in Vanhold cracked in two. It was as if the universe itself wished to announce what had just occurred. Unbeknownst to the revelers, strangers had appeared on Abeir.
At first, the signs were small: unnatural lights and plumes of smoke in the wilderness, fleeing wildlife, and disquieting ripples in the flow of magic. When scouts were finally dispatched, the reports they brought back were astounding. An entirely unknown people, and thousands of them at that, had suddenly taken up residence in the Aranthi Wilds. The first humans had arrived.
